How to Use Your Go Card
  1. The Go Card will have a large arrow on the logo side of the card. The card is inserted into the TRIM unit with the arrow pointing down and the logo side facing you. Go Card insert
  2. When the Go Card goes into the TRIM unit, the unit will deduct one (1) fare for every time the card is put into the TRIM.
  3. If you want to purchase a transfer, you must tell the Operator that you want a transfer before putting the Go Card into the TRIM unit.
  4. After each use, the TRIM unit will print the remaining value on the back of the card (up to 24 entries).
  5. If there are more transactions that can be recorded on the back of the Go Card, the TRIM unit will issue another card, which resembles a transfer ticket, with the remaining value on it. The new card can be used until there is no value left.
  6. When a Go Card falls below the amount needed to pay the fare, the difference can be made up with anther Go Card. The customers simply puts the older Go Card in first and then the second one to pay the remaining fare.
  7. GRTC Transit System will not be responsible for lost or damaged cards. If the Go Card is placed in the dollar slot, the fare box will take the card and not give credit for a fare. These cards may not be returned. You will have to pay your fare with cash or another Go Card.

GRTC’s Fare Media Policy

The correct way to use the Go Card is to place the Go Card into the TRIM unit only. The TRIM unit is the only device that will read the Go Card and deduct the correct fare.

If the Go Card is placed into the dollar bill slot of the fare box, the fare box will take the card and not return it. If this happens, the customer must pay the fare in cash. When the Go Card is placed in the dollar bill side, the fare box is not capable of reading the card or deducting fare from it.

GRTC Transit System will not be responsible for returning any Go Cards placed in the fare box incorrectly. The Go Card can only be returned to the customer if the customer can remember the serial number of the card. The Customer can report the serial number using the Refund Slip the Operator gives them, or by contacting the GRTC Customer Service Center with the serial number.

It is the responsibility of the customer to keep the Go Card in their possession. Lost or stolen cards will not be replaced by GRTC Transit System.

If the Go Card becomes unusable (cannot be read by the TRIM unit), the card needs to be returned to GRTC Transit System at 301 East Belt Boulevard, Richmond, VA 23224 only. The card will be checked and if it is found to have a remaining value, a Go Card equal to that amount will be mailed to the customer.

Go Card vendors other than GRTC Transit System will not make any type of refund.

If you have any questions regarding this Fare Policy, please call the Customer Service Center at (804) 358-GRTC (4782).
