GRTC’s next service updates take effect Sunday, September 16, 2018. There are several routes with adjustments, including key routes with significant expansions or enhancements. Three Henrico County routes will add night and weekend service (Routes 7 A/B, 19 and 91), and the Route 19 will have a major service extension on West Broad St. Public timetables will be available online and in area displays in September.
Kings Dominion (102X) – Limited seasonal service will be extended after Halloween Haunt through WinterFest. This will mark the longest period of seasonal service GRTC has provided for Kings Dominion, running 2018 seasonal service from Spring park opening to Winter park closing.
Pulse (BRT 108) - Weekday morning service will begin earlier at 5AM. Weekday daytime frequencies (until 7PM) will increase to 10 minutes.
Route 2B North Ave/Jahnke/Midlothian – At Chippenham Hospital, northbound trips will no longer circle Chippenham Hospital grounds. Instead, the bus will travel on Hioaks Rd, using the most popular bus stop for the hospital (Stop # 839 Hioaks & Marlowe).
Route 2C North Ave/Midlothian/Belt Blvd – These stops are renamed: 26th and Semmes; Northbound 26th at McDonough; Southbound Clopton at Hargrove.
Route 3 (A, B, C) Highland/Jeff Davis – Routes will not service the bus stop on Marshall at 3rd St.
Route 7 A/B Nine Mile Henrico - Service hours will be extended to nights and weekends, as follows:
Monday – Friday 6AM-11PM
Route 8 Nine Mile Richmond – Operates temporarily from Downtown Richmond to Dabbs House (the Route 7 A/B Nine Mile Henrico service is extending to nights and weekends).
Route 12 Church Hill – There are two routing adjustments:
Downtown between 3rd and 9th Sts.: Eastbound buses travel on Marshall St. Westbound buses still travel on Broad St.
Church Hill near 25th St. Roundabout: 24th St. will only be used for southbound bus travel. 25th St. will be used for northbound bus travel around the roundabout, including front door service to the new grocery story on 25th and Fairmount.
Route 18 Henrico Government Center – This route will be redirected to create more efficient service on Staples Mill Road. The alignment provides service to the Willow Lawn Pulse station area, Libbie Mill Midtown, Amtrak Staples Mill, Henrico Government Center, and Henrico Doctor’s Hospital. The area of this route removed from Broad St. will be covered by the enhanced service on the Route 19 West Broad St. The routing is bi-directional and the same all day (the old AM/PM peak routing switch will be removed).
Route 19 West Broad St – This route will be extended an additional seven miles, providing West Broad St. service from Willow Lawn to destinations like Short Pump Town Center and West Broad Marketplace in western Henrico County. Service will continue to operate every 30 minutes.
The fare will drop to $1.50.
Service hours will also be extended to nights and weekends, as follows:
Monday – Friday 6AM-11PM
Route 75 Three Chopt – Additional trips will be added during the AM and PM peaks for improved connectivity with the Pulse.
Route 76 Patterson – Additional trips will be added during the AM and PM peaks for improved connectivity with the Pulse.
Route 77 Grove – Additional trips will be added during the AM and PM peaks for improved connectivity with the Pulse.
Route 78 Cary/Maymont – There will be increased weekday service with additional trips during the AM and PM peaks (creating 30-minute frequency at peak times). There will also be later service on weeknights, extended from 7PM to 10PM once an hour. Therefore, service will operate from 5AM-10PM on weekdays, with continued hourly weekend service 7AM-7PM.
Route 88 Belt/Ruffin – This route serving Southside and Philip Morris will be adjusted to travel bi-directionally on Ruffin Rd. to better connect Philip Morris employees with the primary gate on Commerce Road. Service will be removed from the Bells Road corridor to serve Ruffin Road in both directions. There will also be later trips added to provide service until 11PM, covering employees changing shifts.
Route 91 Laburnum Connector – Service hours will be extended to nights and weekends, as follows:
Monday – Friday 6:30AM-11PM
Willow Lawn Shelter – The West End routes connecting at Willow Lawn (50, 76, 77, 79) layover at the Willow Lawn Shelter instead of along Markel Rd.
CARE – Because of the Route 19 fare drop to $1.50, the CARE ticket cost is also dropping for destinations on West Broad St. related to this route’s CARE area. Therefore, CARE trips there will drop to one ticket ($3) instead of two tickets ($6). This includes destinations along and near the Route 19, such as West Broad Village and Short Pump Town Center.
