GRTC and the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU), Local 1220, join together every Holiday season to donate food boxes to members of our local community in need. This year, the combined donations from GRTC and Union employees enabled 40 food boxes to be prepared today.
GRTC Chief Executive Officer David Green says, “GRTC is committed to responding to the needs of the communities we serve. We are honored to be able to supply Holiday meals for our neighbors in need.”
Each food box contains all the ingredients for a full Holiday feast, including a turkey, stuffing, potatoes, macaroni and cheese, yams, sweet peas, corn, green beans, cranberry sauce, onions, celery, corn muffin mix, gravy, butter and cookies. All of the food was purchased with donations from GRTC and Union employees.
ATU Local 1220 President Frank Tunstall, III, says, “The Union is proud to partner with GRTC on this annual tradition, and we appreciate those willing and able to give to this important community effort.”
Holiday food boxes were loaded onto a GRTC bus and will be distributed to individuals identified by Social Services this afternoon.
From our entire GRTC family to yours, we wish you safe and Happy Holidays.
