GRTC Celebrates Try Transit Week

GRTC riders were surprised the first day of “Try Transit Week” by GRTC Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Adams, who gave unlimited ride 7 day passes to existing riders.


COO Sheryl Adams brightens these riders’ rainy day with a surprise unlimited ride 7 day pass on the Route 60.


Adams says, “As we encourage everyone to try transit this week, it’s important to first thank our riders already benefitting from GRTC. You can ride GRTC like a pro, too! Bike to a bus stop, relax on an express commuter bus or simply leave the driving up to someone else on a bus or R-VAN commuter vanpool.”

The Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) hosts “Try Transit Week” throughout the Commonwealth September 19-23, 2016. By taking the Try Transit Week pledge, individuals are entered for a chance to win a year of free transit service.

For those trying transit this week, GRTC has an easy “How To Ride Guide” online. The guide takes away the anxiety and stress of learning how to ride and makes connecting with destinations easy. GRTC is committed to responding to the needs of the communities we serve, and welcome feedback from those trying transit this week.

Ride GRTC and be worry-free:

  • Skip paying for tolls and parking. Monthly downtown parking rates are as high as $140 per month or more. Tolls from Chesterfield and south Richmond to Downtown Richmond amount to $86 per month.
  • GRTC mitigates congestion and vehicle wear-and-tear. GRTC riders eliminate 2.4 Million vehicle trips and 18.3 Million vehicle miles traveled annually. Relax and enjoy the ride or get work done as someone else does the driving.
  • GRTC riders save 771,000 gallons of fuel annually, saving riders money and improving air quality.
  • GRTC riders eliminate 18 million pounds of greenhouse gas annually, improving regional air quality.
  • Each GRTC express bus frees up 56 downtown parking spaces.
