GRTC Reports Record Ridership on Kings Dominion Express

GRTC is not even two months into providing its seasonal express service to Kings Dominion, and 2016 is already breaking ridership records.

Since service resumed on Saturday, May 28, 2016, data collected through June 30, 2016 reports 24,171 riders have chosen the Kings Dominion Express to connect from Richmond to the theme park, whether for employment or leisure. This is a 210% increase over this time last year.

GRTC’s CEO David Green says, “The Kings Dominion Express is our best performing express service GRTC offers. May and June have already surpassed entire seasonal ridership of three of the past five years. We think this success is in part to GRTC adding a second bus into service.”

In 2015, more people rode GRTC express service to and from Kings Dominion than ever before. During the Summer service between May and August 2015, more than 42,000 riders used GRTC’s 102x to connect with Kings Dominion. If the 2016 ridership trend continues, GRTC will shatter all previous ridership records for the Kings Dominion Express.

“Kings Dominion is pleased to continue the partnership with GRTC this season and to have supported its growth over the years,” says Katelyn Sherwood, PR and Communications Manager for Kings Dominion.

GRTC will operate daily service through Labor Day, September 5, 2016. After Labor Day through October 30, 2016, GRTC will continue seasonal express service on Saturdays and Sundays.

In addition to serving the general public, this express service provides the option of public transit for students in the Mayor’s Youth Academy and for other area young professionals who have summer employment at Kings Dominion.

For only $5.00 per trip, visitors avoid the cost of gas and parking, save wear and tear on their cars, and fully relax by letting someone else do the driving when they visit Kings Dominion, a great destination for family fun! The fare for Kings Dominion employees (with employee ID) is $3.00 per trip.
