RICHMOND, Va. (March 6, 2019) – 2018 was an historic year for transit growth in Greater Richmond. More service means more jobs. Ridership on GRTC’s services is up by approximately 12% year-over-year, meaning that more people are on board GRTC’s enhanced network than prior to 2018’s service changes. As GRTC continues to grow and enhance our services in response to increased demand, GRTC is now hiring more bus operators and mechanics.
GRTC offers a strong benefits package, including: competitive pay, a generous pension contribution, and overtime pay opportunities. GRTC is a proud employer of Veterans, with more than two dozen Veterans serving our community through their work at GRTC.
GRTC Interim Chief Executive Officer Charlie Mitchell says, “The recent transit developments have not only benefited our customers and the broader community, they have also enabled us to employ more people than we have in about two decades. We are excited to grow our GRTC Family.”
Currently, GRTC employs 251 full time operators and 30 mechanics. With expected retirements and continued service enhancements, GRTC hopes the Spring Hiring Blitz will welcome many new employees by Summer. Candidates must have a good driving record with a point balance of five, have a Virginia CDL Class B License Learner’s Permit with a Passenger (P) Endorsement, and be able to pass a DOT physical. Four of GRTC’s operators and mechanics are currently featured in a new video series where they share their stories of why GRTC is a great place to work. Meet Operators Carol and Keith and Mechanics Lobo and Andrew. These videos are airing on local TV stations this Spring. GRTC encourages interested applicants to apply now!Download
