RICHMOND, VA (September 16, 2022) – GRTC is pleased to announce the elevation of Dexter Hurt in becoming the permanent Director of Information Technology. The agency underwent a rigorous nationwide search and could not be more excited about his promotion.

Hurt began his tenure at GRTC just months before the successful launch of the Pulse and the system re-design in 2018, taking on an essential role as IT Senior Project Manager, which supported the critical technology elements that were part of determining success for the regional project. Hurt has supported GRTC through a wide range of routine and significant technology projects. Hurt will report directly to Adrienne Torres, Chief Development Officer at GRTC. Chief Torres says, "We are very excited for Dexter's promotion to Director of Information Technology. Dexter is very much a constructive, positive team player who has proven his ability to lead the agency in the ever-evolving field of technology."

Hurt's primary responsibilities, having served as Acting Director since June, include optimizing the return on GRTC's investment in critical applications by developing strategies for enhancing and improving GRTC's information systems; and managing all aspects of implementation and upgrades for software and technical solutions. Acting Chief Executive Officer Sheryl Adams says, "GRTC is at a pivotal crossroads in delivering transportation options to a region that has seen ridership return to pre-pandemic levels at faster rates than agencies across the nation, and we are thrilled to have Dexter as a part of our transformative efforts to continue to provide central Virginia with safe and reliable transportation options which include essential information technology infrastructure."

Hurt is currently leading the agency through enterprise-wide change by implementing the Oracle ERP system.

His project list includes several Clever enhancements, communication improvements with E-signs, and hardware and software replacement schedules.

Hurt contains a wealth of project leadership experience, having worked more than 28 years as a certified technology professional. Dexter is a proud yellow jacket, having earned his Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Randolph Macon College in Ashland, Virginia.
