GRTC Offers On-Demand Rides to RIC Between 4 AM and 6 AM
Early morning riders can request a ride to or from the airport
On January 1, 2025, GRTC’s on-demand service pilot will be replaced by on-demand service for trips between 4 AM and 6 AM that begin or end at Richmond International Airport.
The new on-demand early morning airport connection will be offered seven days a week and is fully covered under GRTC’s Zero Fare operations. Riders can request one ride per day between a GRTC bus stop and Richmond International Airport, in either direction. High-frequency airport service is also offered on Routes 7A and 7B starting at 5:00 AM, providing the same great service heading to and from the airport.
GRTC is committed to responsively meeting the mobility needs of the communities they serve. The previous on-demand pilot, launched in December of 2021, was created to ensure no rider was disadvantaged by temporary service adjustments. Due to labor shortages, select route schedules were modified to end at 11:00 PM or not start service until 6:00 AM. Vouchers were offered for one ride per day between bus stops during reduced service hours. Now in 2024, the local fixed route service has returned and exceeds what was in place before the pandemic.
How it works
GRTC/UZURV/Uber Phone Help: Call 804-358-4782 for help requesting a ride over the phone with Uber, UZURV, or a GRTC small vehicle. This is a slower option with longer waits for pick-up. Trips should be requested approximately 30 minutes before needing to ride. Wheelchair-accessible vehicles (WAVs) are available upon request.
Uber App: This is the fastest and easiest option. Download Uber’s mobile app and request a ride from a bus stop to the airport or from the airport to a destination bus stop.
