Richmond – GRTC, in partnership with the City of Richmond, was awarded $750,000 by the Federal Transit Administration as part of President Joe Biden’s Infrastructure and Investment Act (IIJA) to plan for Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) on Chamberlayne Avenue in advance of GRTC’s future North/South Pulse Bus Rapid Transit Line.

GRTC Chief of Staff Adrienne Torres celebrated the announcement, saying “Transit-oriented development has been a key feature of the existing Pulse Corridor, making it possible for thousands of new homes to access world-class rapid transit. This grant will allow the GRTC and the City to expand plans for more transit-oriented options along Chamberlayne Avenue, expanding the promise of the Pulse deeper into our communities.”

City of Richmond DPW Deputy Director Dironna Moore Clarke of the Office of Equitable Transit and Mobility states “the North-South BRT project was a top recommendation from the newly approved Richmond Connects Plan. With the Award of FTA funds, GRTC and the City can now continue to make the North/South BRT a reality for Richmonders and the region.”
