Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Greater Richmond Transit Company’s Equitable Innovation & Legislative Policy department is driven to ensure that our agency continues to foster and cultivate a healthy workplace by ensuring the inclusion of all staff and community leaders while providing equitable solutions to public transportation for our communities we serve.

Overview of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Diversity is reflected in your workforce.  We here at GRTC are proud of how we have addressed issues of diversity but are not tone deaf to the work that lies ahead to further our efforts to making our agency one of the most diverse workplaces in the region. GRTC has a built a family like atmosphere as we have many employees who have worked have family work here over generations. How we interact with each other, and how we interact with our customers are a part of the diversity we continue to shape here at GRTC. Like any family, we all bring a different perspective that help us operate the leading transit company in Central Virginia.

At GRTC, each one of our employees bring a unique set of skills and attributes that define who you are. We refer to it as your fingerprint because no two individuals have the same fingerprint. Equity is when we tailor services and resources to each individual person. Each “individual fingerprint” needs different assistance to ensure success.

Finally, we must be mindful to be inclusive because inclusion ensures that all employees feel included in the growth and mission of GRTC.   We want to make sure everyone feels included - our staff and our riders. Inclusion is always about impact while diversity and equity are about number. You can have target goals for diversity and fail to have the impact of inclusion.
