Bus Rapid Transit Design Phase Milestones

  • 2014 (Spring) - Broad Street Rapid Transit Study completed.
  • 2014 – Federal Transit Administration approves Categorical Exclusion for a Bus Rapid Transit Project under the provisions of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
  • 2014 (April) – Project endorsed by the City of Richmond and Henrico County.
  • 2014 (April) – GRTC files an application to the USDOT for a TIGER Grant.
  • 2014 (May) – Public Meetings held to present BRT Project.
  • 2014 (June) – GRTC Board approves the BRT Project.
  • 2014 (September) – GRTC receives notice of approval of TIGER Grant.
  • 2014 (September 13) - Department of Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx announces TIGER Grant award to GRTC in the amount of $24.9M.
  • 2014 (September) – Contract awarded for the design of the BRT project.
  • 2014 (September) – Design of BRT project initiated.
  • 2014 (September) - Project schedule set for completion in 2017.
  • 2014 (September) - BRT project branding and public outreach efforts initiated.
  • 2015 (January) - Public Meetings held to present BRT Project.
  • 2015 (March) - "GRTC Pulse" announced as name of Broad Street BRT.
  • 2015 (April) - Public Meetings held to present BRT Project.
  • 2015 (July) - Public Meetings held to present BRT Project.
  • 2015 (August) - Conceptual Design presented and approved by the City of Richmond's Urban Design Committee.
  • 2015 (September) - Conceptual Design presented and approved by the City of Richmond's Planning Commission.
  • 2015 (October) - Public Meetings held to present BRT Project.
  • 2015 (November) - Final approval of Semi-Final Design by the City of Richmond's Urban Design Committee.
  • 2015 (November) - Final approval of Semi-Final Design by the City of Richmond's Planning Commission.
  • 2016 (January) - Public Informational Meetings held to present the BRT Project and Route Modifications Report details and solicit public feedback.
  • 2016 (February 8) - Richmond City Council votes in favor of the Development Agreement between the Project Partners, enabling the Project to progress toward construction.
