Upcoming GRTC service changes will include routing and schedule adjustments to local Routes 1 & 1A/B/C. The 1A/B/C will now serve the downtown transfer plaza every trip. The changes are designed to improve reliability, and also provide increased frequency in Southside Richmond. Also included are minor schedule changes to the 29x and downtown routing changes to the 95x. The full detail of changes are outlined below, and public timetables will be available on our website with updated maps and trip times in mid-January. GRTC continues to offer on-demand service Monday thru Friday, 5:00 – 6:00 am and 11:00 pm – 2:00 am for customers impacted by early morning and late-night service limitations.

Bus rides and CARE services remain free until further notice (excludes CARE On-Demand).

Additional service will be added in the future as GRTC continues to hire new bus operators to meet the needs of staff and riders. Apply today!

The following routes will have schedule adjustments:

1 (Chamberlayne/Downtown) – New single route between Chamberlayne at Azalea Ave and downtown always serving the Temporary Transfer Plaza. Every 15 minutes Monday through Saturday until approximately 7:00 pm. Every 30 minutes in the evening and all-day Sunday.

1A (Hull/Midlothian via Southside Plaza) – Modified route between Spring Rock Green and downtown via Midlothian and Hull Street always serving the Temporary Transfer Plaza. Every 30 minutes Monday through Saturday until approximately 7:00 pm. Every 60 minutes in the evening Monday through Saturday. Every 45 minutes all-day Sunday.

1B (Hull/Warwick via Southside Plaza) – Modified route between Midlothian Turnpike and downtown via Warwick and Hull Street always serving the Temporary Transfer Plaza. Every 30 minutes instead of hourly Monday through Saturday until approximately 7:00 pm. No service in the evening and on Sunday.

1C (Hull/Elkhardt via Southside Plaza) – Modified route between Chippenham Mall and downtown via Elkhardt and Hull Street always serving the Temporary Transfer Plaza. Every 30 minutes instead of hourly Monday through Saturday until approximately 7:00 pm. Every 60 minutes in the evening Monday through Saturday. Every 45 minutes all-day Sunday.

Note: High-frequency service remains available between Azalea Ave and Southside Plaza provided by Route 1 on Chamberlayne Ave and where Routes 1A, 1B, and 1C overlap on Hull Street. Riders traveling south via Chamberlayne Ave and west of 9^th Street must transfer to Routes 1A, 1B, or 1C at the Temporary Transfer Plaza to continue to Hull Street. Riders traveling north via Hull Street and east of 9^th Street must transfer to Route 1 at the Temporary Transfer Plaza to continue to Chamberlayne Ave.

29x (Gaskins Express) – One trip leaving Broad + 9^th downtown at 4:25 pm changes to 4:15 pm to help relieve crowding on the first bus leaving downtown Richmond.

77 (Grove) – every 60 minutes weekdays instead of every 45 minutes.

78 (Cary/Maymont) – every 60 minutes weekdays instead of every 45 minutes.

95x (Petersburg Express) – Southbound routing will begin at Stop #7 (14^th + Franklin) instead of Stop #169 (7^th + Main). All current stops will continue to be served, but some stops will no longer be served twice before entering I-95 South to Petersburg.
