Who pays for GRTC?

Farebox revenue, federal, state, and local monies make up the funding that GRTC uses to provide public transit services. Federal funding is used to purchase capital items such as buses, facilities, and computers. Farebox revenue, state, and local government funding is the main source for paying the ongoing operations cost for a route (for example, bus operator wages and fuel). Currently, City of Richmond, Henrico County, and state formula operating funds are provided to GRTC for the provision of public transit services.

How does GRTC plan for the future?

Recognizing that transit systems must periodically be evaluated and modified to meet changing demand, GRTC periodically conducts studies that review and recommend ways of making the company’s transit services more effective and efficient. The end results are principal tools for the strategic planning and operation of GRTC’s public transportation services in the region.
