One New GRTC COVID-19 Case Detected
22 total cases since March; 19 recovered to date.
RICHMOND, Va. (September 14, 2020) – GRTC reports one new COVID-19 case, its second this month. Case #22 is part of the GRTC workforce with public-facing service duties and was last at GRTC on September 9. The employee is quarantined at home with mild symptoms.
GRTC Chief Executive Officer Julie Timm says, “Considering there are so few cases in GRTC with the recent start-up of on-campus learning at area universities and the recent Labor Day Holiday weekend, we take this as strong evidence that our protective measures remain highly effective in keeping our work environment safe.”
As positive cases are identified, GRTC proactively notifies, quarantines, and tests for any possible contact. This process is in accordance with guidance provided by the Virginia Department of Health. The full list of confirmed cases is available online. Out of 22 total cases (20 GRTC employees, two GRTC contractors) since March, 19 (17 GRTC employees, two GRTC contractors) have already recovered.
GRTC continues to host on-site, free COVID-19 testing events for staff, conducted by SecureHealth, a regionally owned and operated urgent care provider. On-going and repeated testing remains an important tool to aid in early detection of COVID-19 in the workforce for asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic infections.
