GRTC Essential Employee Vaccination Rate Over 60%
Another on-site vaccination opportunity for staff is on July 22.
RICHMOND, Va. (July 14, 2021) – GRTC reports over 60% of on-site essential staff are now fully vaccinated. These positions include Operators, Mechanics, Cleaners, Operations Supervisors, Maintenance Foremen, and other administrative staff whose duties strictly limit or fully prevent teleworking. Currently 285 of GRTC’s 466 employees have voluntarily reported full vaccination. Another on-site vaccination opportunity for staff is on July 22, including the option to take the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
GRTC CEO Julie Timm says, “As COVID persists in our community, GRTC continues to adjust to life with COVID. This means we are continually evaluating our policies for staff and customers to ensure a safer experience and deliver reliable service. GRTC must follow Federal transit rules for face masks through September 13, and we are staying the course on workplace COVID protocols until The Virginia Department of Labor and Industry (DOLI) issues an expected update this Summer to all employers. I am grateful for DOLI’s thorough review of our workplace during the past year, concluding that GRTC is a safe place to work and has gone beyond requirements for case reporting and safety measures.”
GRTC continues to monitor the rate of COVID infection among all employees. One new case was reported on July 13, 2021 of an employee testing positive after nearly two weeks of vacation. Their last day at work was July 2 prior to testing positive. This the first positive case for a GRTC employee or contractor since May 11, and currently the only active case among staff and contractors. As with nearly 95% of previous GRTC employees reported as contracting COVID-19, there is no on-the-job-related connection for this case. Contact tracing indicates off-duty activities as the cause of illness. For the most complete and latest GRTC updates during this pandemic, please visit our website. Any future cases will continue to be publicly posted on this webpage.
